I know I know! Whenever I promote snail mail I just know there are people out there ( mostly younger than myself) who are just rolling their eyes at the thought of sitting down, writing a note, finding an address and a stamp and actually mailing it.
Just send a text or an email..so much easier they are thinking or muttering under their breath.
Yes it is easier and yet there is just something special about sending and receiving a handwritten letter in the mail.
First you recognize the handwriting which makes you smile. Your curiosity peaks as you open it and I can say with almost 100% certainty that you will smile again at what is written and read it several times.
Still not convinced?
Then make it fun.
I have been sending weekly letters to a dear friend of mine. The why is unimportant but I know she appreciates my notes. I decided to make it fun for her and me.
How you ask?
Before she even opens it she can see how much fun I have had with the envelope.
The surprise for me IS how fun it is and relaxing to do this.
I am not a talented artist and I make mistakes. Honestly I was the kid in school who got more paint, glue and glitter on myself than was on the actual project. As an adult I got into stamping but ruined more projects getting to the final result with smears and ink everywhere. Now I embrace those mistakes and just have fun.
I mean, come on..this is filled with joy! These are just a few. Some are just simple but these I got really into and more often than not there is an “oops” which my friend says she loves ( me too!) because perfection is not the goal here.

I redicovered Ed Embererley’s Fingerprint Drawing technique which for me is easy ( ok how many times can I use the word fun but it is!) and of course per my nature messy. 🙂
I know lots of people got back into puzzles during the pandemic and found them relaxing. I wasn’t one of those people but this, this is relaxing fun and very tactile which for me is perfect!
Of course not every letter has to have this and you may still be skeptical but as I approach our wedding anniversary this Sunday ( 45 years) I think of the young couple seperated by many miles, away from family and the joy and smiles Paul’s letters brought me. I still have them.
So try sending a little love the old way. It will be treasured.
Now go make it a thoughtful and fun one! Jennifer
