I was sitting out on the little deck off my office enjoying the sunshine and also trying to stay awake. For whatever reason I was drowsy.
Our neighbor was out walking his dog and I realized I hadn’t seen his wife in awhile. They are a lovely couple, around 80 yrs old who are just delightful to talk to and be with. They always exhibit true southern hospitality.
They live here part time and were two of the first people we met in our tiny neighborhood.
I know we live in a time and age where you just don’t drop by but I was worried about K and thought I would stop by on the pretense of getting their cell phone numbers. D had given me his card but I had misplaced it
As usual they were so gracious and very happy to see me , We chatted and caught up, I got a new card with the contact info on it and then they said “Give Paul a call and we will go on a cocktail cruise” So off we went. Guess I should mention we live on a river.
A beautiful evening. They have been here in area part time ( full time in the summer) for many years and have a rich history to tell of the area. We drank a cocktail, munched on peanuts, and enjoyed the lovely weather.

Suddenly I had a wave of missinng my parents. Now the truth is my mother hated boats due to extreme bouts of seasickness and my Dad..well it would have turned into a whole big deal but somehow D. made it seem seamless. He prepared the drinks, had the peanuts on board and all Paul, K and I had to do was hop on the boat. Hats off to K. for jumping on without a hitch. Hope I can do that when I am 80.
We had a lovely time and D dropped us off at our dock.
My heart was full. All because I was brave enough to stop by.
Then I had a wave of missing my grandparents. Now they would have done this in a heartbeat, made it seamless and had more than one drink of course. 🙂
A lovely heart deposit all because I decided to stop by. I know that is not a thing anymore but maybe it should be. More stopping by, more spontanaiety, more gentle moments on the river with wonderful people, a drink and handful of peanuts.
An evening filled with gentle joy and gratitude and a reminder that heart led adventures are just the best!
As always keep triing,
Jennifer

Shout out to my hubby who tolerates my very messy self ( he is not) and all of my endeavors: writing, painting, crocheting, photography, and scrapbooking. No looking in closets where I hide the evidence.
I was published in the book ” So God Made a Mother” ( you can order it here)and I also recently I have a quote in the beautiful companion journal “So God Made a Mother’s Story and I am working on a yet to be named novel.
