There are angels walking around everywhere brilliantly disguised as human beings.
I know this because I have encountered quite a few in the last few years and five or more last Friday.
Often their only job is to make people smile, uplift spirits and remind us all there are so many good people in this world despite the news.
I purposely stopped to see two that I already knew were angels. They helped me out so much with my Mom while she was in assisted living and eventually memory care. Communication from the ones in charge was not the best but these two women looked after my Mom and let me know what was happening, what she needed and how she was doing. I was there frequently but I knew these two angels loved on my Mom as much as they could even though it was way beyond their job description.
Upon arrival I got the biggest hug 🙂 She called Angel #2 and said ” You better cut your lunch short, we have a vistor you won’t want to miss” When she walked in, all five feet of her, she gave me the strongest, longest hug ever and repeated it several times. Love filled the room.
One of them keeps a photo of Mom on her phone. I can’t even.
After that beautiful visit I headed over to Trader’s Joes. Please know I am not the best at parking my car so when I saw the car next to me parked crooked I just smiled as I promptly ran over a curb. Oh geez.
As I was heading towards the store two women were headed to the crooked car next to me. One was a tall elegant older woman with a little poodle mix dog wearing a service dog vest. The other reminded me of short Italian woman with a great smile. She was pushing two carts and apologizing profusely about her crooked car.
We had a nice laugh about it as I told her the only reason my car is ever straight is because of the camera that allows me to correct it.
The conversation continued and the tall woman said ” You mean you don’t know Anna?” as she nodded toward the woman loading the groceries into the car. Everyone knows Anna. She helps everyone out at Fords Colony. Anna smiled as she continued to empty the carts.
As the conversation continued it turned out the elderly woman’s children went to the Naval Academy ( as did Paul) All four of them attended USNA. Wow. She beamed with pride.
The carts were empty and it was time to move on. I offered to take them back to the store. Anna hesitated and said ” Both of them?” and then glanced at the back of my car peppered with running decals. I said “Of course, no problem” and she said ” well you are athletic, you can do it” 🙂
Little did she know I am the cart gatherer when I shop, pushing as many as I can into the corrals or back to the store.
I smiled as I walked into Trader Joe’s and immediately encountered the sample lady giving out bites of apple pie. Yum! As I am eating this bit of deliciousness I told her of my encounter with the two lovely ladies and she said ” Darn, I wish we had known, we like to give a little something to those helping others”
Just a little more kindness and happiness on my travels that day.
I think they were all angels set in my path to make my day brighter and deposit some love into my heart.
My hope is that I also made their day brighter with a smile, some laughter and joy.
None of this was planned it just happened. It was exactly what I needed and I wondered on the drive home if there were other angels I have missed on the days I was in a hurry and passed by the ones put right in front of me.
So as always I will keep triing…..to slow down and see the angels in my path. I like it when my heart is overflowing..you will too!

P.S.

All grammatical and spelling errors are my gift to you and may you have a magical day or several 🙂
I hope you encounter angels on your travels today. My guess is you are an angel to others as well 🙂
I was recently published in the book ” So God Made a Mother” ( you can order it here) and I am working on a yet to be named novel. My six grandchildren keep me young and my very organized hubby Paul tolerates my very unorganized yiddle ( middle and youngest) self. Opposites do attract 🙂
